When Is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month? UK Dates Explained
Share
If you have searched for men's mental health awareness month and found two different answers, you are not imagining it. Some sources say June, others say November. Both are right, depending on where you are and which campaign you mean. Here is how the dates fit together in the UK, and some simple ways to mark them.
The short answer
- November is the month most people in the UK associate with men's health, thanks to Movember, which runs for the whole month and focuses on mental health, suicide prevention, and prostate and testicular cancer.
- 19 November is International Men's Day, which falls in the middle of Movember.
- June is Men's Health Month in the United States, and in the UK Men's Health Week runs in mid-June, in the week leading up to Father's Day. In 2026 it ran from 15 to 21 June.
So if you are in the UK and planning something now, November is the one to aim for.
Why men's mental health has its own focus
Men are often less likely to talk about how they are feeling or to ask for help, and many grow up with the idea that coping quietly is the strong thing to do. Awareness months exist to chip away at that. They give people a reason to start a conversation that might otherwise never happen, at work, at the football club, or at the kitchen table.
Simple ways to mark it
- Check in properly. Ask someone how they are, then ask again. The second ask is often the one that gets an honest answer.
- Do something side by side. A walk, a game or a job in the garage can make talking easier than sitting face to face.
- Grow a moustache or move for Movember. Sign up through the official Movember website and raise money for men's health projects.
- Wear the message. Clothing can do some of the talking for you. A simple slogan on a t-shirt or hoodie can let someone know it is safe to bring things up.
- Do it as a group. Workplaces, sports teams and community groups often pick a day to wear the same message together.
