Climate Change Stories: Polar Bear has been written by Alex, a Year 6 student.

It is a short story of a polar bear addressing the government, encouraging them to take the threat of the climate crisis seriously.

As the content talks about the threats of climate change, this book is intended for older children and adults. The book discusses human-caused climate change and its consequences, including extinction, which may be distressing. Parental guidance is advised to help young readers process these challenging topics.

About Climate Change Stories

Climate Change Stories started as an idea when Rembrandt Zegers was invited to work with a school class (Year 6) as part of their project on advocacy.

As he himself is an advocate for nature, the question he put forward to the children was, “If you would be an animal, what animal would you choose to be and what would you say to the grown ups if you were in government yourself?”

After this event, which the children loved and were very engaged with, Rembrandt joined with children’s author, Chris Dixon, to turn the written stories into books.

Climate Change Stories is made with the consent and cooperation of the children themselves, their parents and their class teacher, Catherine Le Page. Polar Bear, written by Year 6 student Alex, highlights the threats polar bears face as a result of the climate crisis.

Their habitat is at risk of being destroyed by climate change. The aim of the book is to raise awareness of this important issue with adults whilst encouraging the advocacy of younger generations.
